
Surrey University Staff Member Shot with Crossbow; Former Student Arrested
A staff member at the University of Surrey sustained serious injuries after being shot with a crossbow on campus. Surrey Police reported attending the Manor Park Student Village in Guildford at approximately 10:00 BST on Thursday, following reports of a man in his 50s being attacked.
Police subsequently arrested a 21-year-old former student of the university on suspicion of attempted murder. The suspect was detained at the scene shortly after the incident and remains in custody.
The victim, identified as a member of the university's campus safety team, was transported to hospital. His next of kin have been informed.
Chief Superintendent Jon Groenen confirmed an investigation is underway to determine the full circumstances of the assault. He noted a substantial emergency services presence remained at the location following the incident. The University of Surrey stated it is providing full cooperation to the police and confirmed that the campus remains open and operational.
