Uxbridge Father Grieves Three Daughters Who Died in Brighton Sea Incident
A father from Uxbridge has described feeling "unbearable grief" following the deaths of his three daughters in the sea off Brighton beach. The victims have been identified by Sussex Police as Jane Adetoro, 36, Christina Walter, 32, and Rebecca Walter, 31.
Emergency services responded at approximately 05:45 BST on 13 May after a report of a person in the water near Black Rock car park on Madeira Drive. Subsequently, two additional bodies were recovered from the immediate vicinity.
Joseph Adetoro, the father, released a statement lamenting the loss. "No words can truly describe the pain of losing three daughters in the prime of their lives," he stated, adding, "Jane, Christina, and Becky were more than daughters to me; they were my joy, my strength, and the beautiful light that filled our family with happiness and love."
Sussex Police confirmed an ongoing investigation into how the women entered the water. A spokesperson noted, "There is no evidence to suggest third-party involvement or criminality, but specialist detectives are working hard to gather the full facts and circumstances of their deaths." Chief Superintendent Adam Hays pledged that the force would "leave no stone unturned."
One line of inquiry being pursued by police is that the women may have entered the sea from the beach and subsequently encountered difficulties. It is understood they were initially observed near Brighton Palace Pier before drifting towards Brighton Marina. Investigators have reviewed extensive CCTV footage and conducted local enquiries to reconstruct the women's final movements, also issuing an appeal for public information.
Brighton & Hove City Council leader Bella Sankey commented on the tragedy, stating, "To learn today that these three beautiful women were sisters makes this troubling situation even more heartbreaking."
