Manchester Airport Assault Trial: Jury Discharged After Failing to Reach Verdicts on Amaaz Brothers
A retrial jury at Liverpool Crown Court has been discharged, unable to reach verdicts on charges that two brothers assaulted a police officer at Manchester Airport.
Mohammed Fahir Amaaz, 21, and Muhammad Amaad, 26, from Rochdale, had denied assaulting Greater Manchester PC Zachary Marsden at a Terminal Two car park pay station on 23 July 2024. The court heard police approached the brothers following an earlier incident at a coffee shop.
Despite being directed that a majority verdict was permissible, the jurors were discharged after deliberating for nearly 20 hours without success. The Amaaz brothers contended their actions were in lawful self-defence, or in defence of the other.
The case has been adjourned until 29 May. This will allow the Crown Prosecution Service to determine whether it will pursue a third trial.
