19 Drown as Migrant Vessel with 270 Capsizes Off Northern Cyprus Coast

Nineteen individuals have drowned after a vessel carrying an estimated 270 migrants capsized off the coast of northern Cyprus. Authorities confirmed the fatalities as rescue efforts continue for the remaining passengers.

The incident occurred approximately 20 nautical miles off the Karpaz peninsula. Local officials, including the mayor of Famagusta, Süleyman Uluçay, confirmed that 159 passengers have been located and reached as part of the ongoing operation.

Emergency services, including air and sea assets, were immediately deployed following reports of the capsizing. The nationality and precise origin of the passengers have not yet been fully determined, though initial reports suggest a mixed group of individuals.
