
82 Killed, Nine Missing in Shanxi Province Coal Mine Gas Explosion
A gas explosion at the Liushenyu Coal Mine, operated by the Tongzhou Group in Shanxi Province, has claimed the lives of 82 people. Nine individuals remain unaccounted for following the incident, which occurred at 19:29 local time on Friday. At the time of the blast, 247 workers were reportedly on duty.
State news agency Xinhua confirmed the casualty figures, stating, "Reporters learned from the scene of the gas explosion at the Liushenyu Coal Mine of the Tongzhou Group in Shanxi Province that the accident has resulted in 82 deaths."
Chinese President Xi Jinping has mandated that all resources be deployed for the treatment of the injured and the search for survivors. Furthermore, President Xi called for a thorough government investigation into the cause of the accident, with a commitment to holding those responsible accountable.
