
90-Second Power Cut Paralyzes London Overground, National Rail Services
A 90-second power outage at a London Overground control centre brought significant parts of the capital's rail network to a halt, leading to extensive delays and cancellations for thousands of passengers. The incident, which occurred at the Romford Electrical Control Room, severely impacted services on the London Overground, as well as several National Rail lines, including Greater Anglia and c2c.
The brief loss of power initiated a safety shutdown across affected lines. While power was swiftly restored, the subsequent system reboot required trains to be held at signals, causing a ripple effect of delays throughout the morning commute. London Overground services between Gospel Oak and Barking Riverside, and between Romford and Upminster, were particularly affected, with some routes experiencing suspensions.
This disruption highlights the critical fragility of interconnected infrastructure. A seemingly minor electrical fault at a single point proved sufficient to trigger widespread operational paralysis across multiple, ostensibly independent, rail operators.
