A66 Crash Victim's Father Charged After Funeral Assault in Stainton

Gye Worthy, 49, has been charged with assault by beating after an incident at the funeral of his son, Reuben Worthy, in Stainton, Cumbria. The alleged assault occurred at St Stephen's Church on 10 May, during the service for the 18-year-old, who died in a collision on the A66 near Kirkby Thore on 24 April.

Cumbria Police confirmed the charge, stating Mr Worthy is scheduled to appear at Carlisle Magistrates' Court on 25 June. The multi-vehicle crash that claimed Reuben's life also resulted in the deaths of two other individuals, identified as a 60-year-old man and a 75-year-old woman.

Emergency services responded to the scene of the A66 collision, which involved four vehicles, at approximately 16:20 BST. Investigations into the fatal crash are ongoing, with authorities appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage to assist their enquiries.
