Andy Burnham Receives Condolences After Father's Death, Cancels Engagements

Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham has publicly thanked well-wishers for their support after the death of his father, Frank Burnham. The Mayor confirmed his father's passing in a social media statement, revealing he had cancelled all public engagements for the current week.

Mr Burnham received condolences from across the political spectrum, including messages from Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer, and Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey. Many other public figures and constituents also offered their sympathies to the Mayor and his family.

A former soldier, Frank Burnham served with the Royal Artillery before working as a telephone engineer for the Post Office, which later became British Telecom. He was a lifelong supporter of Everton Football Club.

The Mayor's office confirmed that arrangements for Mr Burnham's return to public duties would be communicated in due course, allowing him time to grieve with his family.
