Metropolitan Police Arrest 187 Individuals in E-Bike Crime Clampdown

Metropolitan Police efforts against moped and e-bike-enabled crime have resulted in 187 arrests across London. The operation, which involved officers utilising high-powered Sur-Ron electric bikes for pursuit, also led to the recovery of 240 stolen e-bikes.

Police stated that 104 individuals were charged with various offences, including robbery and theft. Additionally, 51 offenders were remanded into custody following the clampdown. The initiative forms part of a broader strategy to address a noticeable increase in offences involving e-bikes, particularly their use in snatch thefts and other street crimes.

The deployment of Sur-Ron bikes enables officers to engage in pursuits through areas previously inaccessible to conventional police vehicles, such as parkland and narrow alleyways. This tactical shift underscores a response to evolving criminal methods that exploit the agility of electric two-wheelers.
