Former Conservative Campaign Director Admits Election Date Information Leak to Wife

Anthony Lee, the former Conservative Party campaign director, has admitted to violating the Gambling Act 2005 by sharing privileged information about the upcoming 2024 general election date. Lee entered his plea at Westminster Magistrates' Court, following a referral from the Gambling Commission.

The court heard that Lee, in his capacity as campaign director, possessed sensitive details concerning the timing of the general election. He then conveyed this non-public information to his wife, Laura Lee. The Gambling Commission initiated an investigation after suspicious betting patterns emerged shortly before Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced the election for 4 July.
