Ansreen Bukhari's Murder Conviction for A6 Leicestershire Crash Victims Upheld
Ansreen Bukhari, 46, has seen her appeal against a murder conviction dismissed by the Court of Appeal. Bukhari was found guilty alongside her daughter, Mahek Bukhari, 28, and six others, for the murders of Saqib Hussain and Hashim Ijazuddin, both 21, in February 2022. The victims died when their vehicle was intentionally forced off the A6 dual carriageway near Loughborough.
Details of the Fatal Incident
The prosecution detailed how the victims’ Škoda Fabia was rammed off the road during a high-speed chase involving two other cars. This pursuit was initiated after Mr Hussain threatened to expose an affair with Ansreen Bukhari, leveraging explicit images and videos. The ensuing collision resulted in the Škoda tearing in half and erupting in flames, killing both occupants.
Court Proceedings and Appeals
The initial trial at Leicester Crown Court concluded with Ansreen and Mahek Bukhari receiving life sentences, with minimum terms of 27 and 31 years respectively. Three other defendants — Rekan Karwan, Raees Jamal, and Sanaf Gulamustafa — were also convicted of murder and received life sentences. Jamal was additionally sentenced for a separate sexual assault. Three further defendants — Ameer Jamal, Natasha Akhtar, and Mohammed Patel — received manslaughter convictions. All eight defendants pursued appeals against their convictions and sentences.
Lord Justice Dingemans presided over the appeal hearing, which commenced in May and concluded with the dismissal of Ansreen Bukhari's appeal against her murder conviction. Appeals by other defendants are reportedly still under consideration, with decisions expected later in the year.
