Anthony Joshua's Driver Adeniyi Kayode Attempted Overtake Before Fatal A3 Crash, Court Hears

Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, who serves as a driver for boxer Anthony Joshua, is currently on trial at Guildford Crown Court. He faces charges of causing death by dangerous driving and reckless driving following a fatal collision on the A3 near Guildford.

The Incident

Prosecutor Paul Stimson detailed that the incident occurred on the evening of 22nd September 2022. Kayode, driving a black Mercedes, allegedly attempted to overtake a line of traffic at an excessive speed. This manoeuvre led to a collision with a car driven by 49-year-old Joanna Bridge. Ms Bridge sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mr Stimson told the court that Kayode's actions constituted a "deliberate decision to ignore the risks" associated with such a manoeuvre on a busy motorway. Witnesses testified that Kayode's vehicle was travelling at a high speed, undertaking other vehicles before swerving into the path of Ms Bridge's car.

Kayode's Defence

The defence counsel contends that Kayode was not driving dangerously but was rather attempting to avoid another vehicle that had unexpectedly pulled out in front of him. They argue that the collision was an unavoidable accident rather than a consequence of reckless driving.

The trial continues, with further witness testimonies expected. The court will consider all evidence to determine whether Kayode's driving fell below the standard of a competent and careful driver and if it was a direct cause of Ms Bridge's death.
