Ashley Daley Jailed Four Months For £4,000 Supermarket Shoplifting Spree Across South Wales
Ashley Daley, 39, has been imprisoned for four months following a three-week shoplifting spree that caused over £4,000 in losses for businesses across South Wales and Gwent.
Daley’s criminal activities included 44 offences, predominantly shop theft and a breach of a criminal behaviour order. One incident on 2 February saw him pilfer an entire Cadbury Mini Eggs display, valued at £100, from a Tesco store in Cardiff.
His targets included supermarkets in Cardiff, Taffs Well, Merthyr Tydfil, Chepstow, and Caldicot. Daley was apprehended on 21 February in a vehicle, shortly after committing another theft. Police discovered a kitchen knife in his possession, leading to an additional charge.
Appearing before Cardiff Crown Court, Daley, who has no fixed address, pleaded guilty to all charges.
Detective Constable Sarah Warriner commented that Daley’s actions demonstrated a clear disregard for the law, highlighting the financial burden on businesses and the emotional toll on retail staff inflicted by such prolific offenders.
