Asylum Seeker Abdul Khan Jailed for Rape of 13-Year-Old Girl in Nature Reserve
An asylum seeker, Abdul Khan, 20, has received a 12-year prison sentence for the rape of a 13-year-old girl. Khan had previously pleaded guilty to two counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. The court proceedings revealed Khan engaged with his victim on Snapchat, falsely presenting himself as a 14-year-old.
The two arranged to meet at a nature reserve in West Sussex. Following the assault, the girl confided in a family member, who promptly reported the incident to the authorities. Khan, who was 18 at the time of the offence, was arrested shortly thereafter.
During sentencing at Hove Crown Court, Judge Christine Henson KC highlighted the significant psychological impact of Khan’s actions on the victim. Detective Sergeant Matthew Wescott, leading the investigation, commended the victim's bravery in coming forward, which was crucial to securing the conviction.
