
Belfast Stabbing Hospitalises Man with Serious Injuries, Police Arrest One
A man is receiving treatment for serious injuries at Royal Victoria Hospital following a stabbing in North Belfast. Police responded to Kinnaird Avenue at approximately 22:30 BST on Monday. One man has been taken into custody.
Deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly characterised the event as a "shocking and brutal act of violence," asserting that such "hatred has no place" in society. Justice Minister Naomi Long commended the "brave people who disarmed the attacker" and extended her thoughts to the victim, their family, and the attending police.
The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service dispatched an emergency ambulance and an advanced paramedic after a 999 call at 22:39 BST. Following on-scene assessment, the victim was transported to hospital.
Sinn Féin MP John Finucane described the attack as "appalling," emphasising that "violence of any kind" is unacceptable. Independent councillor Paul McCusker reported that residents witnessed the incident, with one individual requiring hospital treatment due to the stress. McCusker praised local residents for their intervention and urged community support for police investigations. Ulster Unionist Party leader Jon Burrows labelled the incident a "barbaric attack" that has "caused shock" across the United Kingdom.
