Bob Harris Confirms Prostate Cancer Spread to Spine, Begins Radiotherapy Treatment
Long-serving broadcaster Bob Harris, known for presenting 'The Country Show' since 1999, has announced his prostate cancer has spread to his upper spine. He described the news as "really frightening" and detailed an "extremely testing time" spent in hospital.
Harris explained on Instagram that doctors sought to identify the cause of "excruciating pain" in his back, leading to scans that confirmed the cancer's progression. He immediately commenced radiotherapy, requiring a two-week hospital stay "to bring things back under control."
Currently, Harris is recovering at home, undergoing a rehabilitation programme, and reports feeling "stronger every day." He extended gratitude to his family for their substantial support during what he termed "one of the most difficult times of my life."
The broadcaster anticipates returning to 'The Country Show' and 'Sounds of the 70s' in May. During his absence, Darius Rucker and Shaun Keaveny have been deputising. Harris has over five decades of broadcasting experience, including stints on 'The Old Grey Whistle Test', Radio Oxford, and Radio 1.
