Donald Trump States King Charles III US Visit Could Repair UK-US Relations
Former US President Donald Trump stated that the impending state visit of King Charles III and Queen Camilla to the United States could “absolutely” help mend relations between the two countries. Speaking ahead of the four-day visit, which commences on Monday, Trump described King Charles as “fantastic” and “a great man”, adding, “Absolutely the answer is yes.”
The King and Queen are scheduled to meet with Trump at the White House, where King Charles will also hold a private meeting with the President and deliver an address to Congress. The royal tour will proceed to New York, Virginia, and Bermuda following two days in Washington D.C.
Trump Comments on UK Politics
Trump also offered his assessment of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. He asserted that Starmer could only “recover” politically by changing course on immigration and increasing oil and gas extraction in the North Sea. Trump’s remarks follow his earlier criticism on Truth Social regarding Starmer’s appointment of Lord Mandelson as UK ambassador to the US, which he called “a really bad pick”.
Regarding the conflict in Iran, Trump reiterated his dissatisfaction with the level of UK support. He claimed to have “wiped Iran’s military out” without requiring allies, characterising his requests for assistance as “more of a test”. Starmer has previously stated the UK will not be drawn into a “wider war”.
When questioned about his earlier threat that “a whole civilisation will die tonight” unless Iran agreed to a deal, a comment condemned by figures including the Pope, Trump merely stated, “The other side is dying to make a deal,” suggesting his approach was effective.
