Britannia Hotels Faces Charges Over Guest Death and Injuries at Liverpool Adelphi Hotel
Britannia Hotels faces 20 charges of health and safety violations after a guest died and a child was injured at the Britannia Adelphi Hotel in Liverpool.
Chloe Haynes, 21, was discovered deceased in her room in September 2022, trapped beneath a heavy wardrobe. Separately, a three-year-old girl sustained injuries last summer from a falling cabinet within the same establishment. The charges, brought by Liverpool City Council’s environmental health department, also cite allegedly unstable wardrobes in other rooms and windows that reportedly opened excessively wide.
District Judge Paul Healey has referred the case to Liverpool Crown Court, with an initial hearing scheduled for 4 June. Representing Britannia Hotels, Keith Morton KC stated the companies would not indicate a plea at this preliminary stage.
