British Airways Gatwick Flight Returns After Cockpit Window Cracks Mid-Air
A British Airways service from Gatwick to Mauritius, flight BA2067, was compelled to turn back approximately one hour into its journey due to a cracked cockpit windscreen. The Boeing 777-200 aircraft had reportedly passed south of Brussels before the decision was made to return to the London airport.
Safe Return to Gatwick
The plane executed a safe landing at Gatwick at around 00:30 GMT. Passengers were subsequently disembarked and accommodated in hotels, with British Airways confirming that arrangements are being made for them to continue their journey to Mauritius. Engineers are now examining the aircraft to determine the cause and extent of the damage to the cockpit window.
While rare, such incidents can occur due to factors including bird strikes, manufacturing defects, or thermal stress at high altitudes. Safety protocols dictate that a return to base is the most prudent action to ensure passenger and crew well-being when a critical component like a cockpit window is compromised.
