British Woman Jailed for Blackmail in Hong Kong After False Rape Claim Against Banker

A British woman, Isabel Rose, has received a 40-month custodial sentence in Hong Kong for blackmail and perverting the course of justice. Rose was convicted of fabricating a rape accusation against a UK banker in an attempt to extort £100,000 from him.

The court heard that Rose reported the alleged rape to Hong Kong police in July 2021. However, subsequent investigations revealed inconsistencies in her account and evidence pointing to an attempted extortion.

Prosecutors presented evidence demonstrating Rose's concerted effort to secure a substantial financial payment from the individual. This included threatening to publicise the allegations, which she admitted were false, if her demands were not met.
