Prince William Commits £250,000 Fund to Duchy of Cornwall's Nansledan Village Project

Prince William, as the Duke of Cornwall, has allocated £250,000 towards the Nansledan development, a new village constructed on Duchy land near Newquay. This fund is intended to benefit the community through various initiatives within the project.

The move comes after the Prince's decision to forgo the personal income derived from Dartmoor Prison, which generates approximately £1.5 million in rent annually for the Duchy. His inheritance of the Duchy of Cornwall in September 2022, following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, made him the landlord of the prison. The Ministry of Justice pays the Duchy for the prison's lease.

A spokesperson for the Duchy of Cornwall confirmed that the Prince's choice to redirect the prison's rental income ensures that these funds are now entirely dedicated to the Duchy's work and the communities within its holdings, rather than contributing to his private income. The Nansledan development, expected to span 50 years, is projected to include 4,000 homes, schools, a church, and a high street upon completion.
