Burglar Steals £250,000 Antiques from National Trust's Buckland Abbey Estate

Devon and Cornwall Police are investigating the theft of valuable antiques from Buckland Abbey, a National Trust property in Yelverton. The burglary, which occurred on 30 July, saw the removal of several historically significant items, including a rare 16th-century silver-gilt 'Armada' dish and a silver chalice.

The National Trust confirmed the stolen chalice is believed to have belonged to Sir Richard Grenville, a notable Elizabethan seafarer. Another item taken was a 17th-century silver-gilt cup and cover. The total value of the stolen artefacts is estimated to be around £250,000.

Officials from the heritage charity expressed their dismay over the loss of these "irreplaceable" items, which form part of the nation's historical collection. The National Trust has appealed for public assistance and for anyone with information regarding the burglary or the whereabouts of the artefacts to contact the police.
