Caldey Island Monk Faces Indecent Assault Charge, Gave Naked Photos to Visitors
Father Thady Winright, a monk from the Cistercian monastery on Caldey Island, has appeared in court charged with indecent assault. The Pembrokeshire resident, aged 64, is accused of sexually assaulting a female visitor and subsequently providing naked images of himself to her. He faces a second charge of distributing similar photographs to other members of the public.
The alleged offences span a period between 1983 and 2004. Winright entered a not guilty plea to both charges during a hearing at Swansea Crown Court. The court has scheduled a trial for the monk, which is anticipated to commence in July 2025.
Caldey Island, located off the coast of Pembrokeshire, is home to a community of Cistercian monks known for their monastic lifestyle and the production of perfumes and shortbread, which are sold to visitors.
