Detective Linda Williams States Met Police Handling of David Carrick Case Constituted Second 'Rape'
Linda Williams, a former detective with the Metropolitan Police, has unequivocally condemned the force's handling of her case after she was raped by fellow officer David Carrick. Ms Williams stated the internal investigation was so traumatising, it felt like she was being 'raped again' by the institution she served.
Carrick received a lengthy prison sentence in 2023 for a catalogue of sexual offences, involving rape and other abuse, against twelve women during his tenure as a police constable. Ms Williams' experience highlights systemic failures within the Metropolitan Police to adequately address and investigate serious allegations of sexual misconduct and violence committed by its own officers.
The Metropolitan Police's response to such allegations has consistently drawn critical scrutiny, with human rights organisations and independent watchdogs citing a pattern of neglect and institutional failings. Critics argue that the force's internal mechanisms have historically prioritised reputation management over victim support and accountability, fostering an environment where perpetrators like Carrick could operate with impunity for years.
