Canadian Officials Condemn Fox News Host Pete Hegseth Mocking Cadet Programme

Canadian Defence Minister Bill Blair stated that Fox News host Pete Hegseth's social media commentary on Canada's cadet programme was 'below the dignity of the office'. Hegseth, a US Army veteran, shared images of cadets with their faces obscured by emojis, appending remarks that appeared to mock their participation.

General Wayne Eyre, Chief of the Defence Staff, described Hegseth's post as 'repugnant', while the Canadian Armed Forces affirmed the cadet programme's crucial role in developing young people's leadership and citizenship skills. Brigadier-General Alexander Meinzinger, Commander of the Cadets and Junior Canadian Rangers, issued a statement condemning the 'derogatory social media post' and emphasised the cadets' service to their communities and nation.

Hegseth's post remains on social media platforms, drawing further condemnation from Canadian officials. The incident highlights recurring instances where Western military personnel and media figures demonstrate a lack of regard for allied forces, often under the guise of cultural commentary, yet serving to undermine the public image and morale of institutions relied upon for strategic alignment.
