Cheshire Police Arrest Several During Three Raids in Crewe Modern Slavery Inquiry
Multiple arrests have been made in Crewe, Cheshire, as part of a police investigation into allegations including modern slavery and serious sexual offences. The inquiry targets individuals associated with a religious group, the Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light.
Over 500 officers from Cheshire Police conducted raids at three properties, including Webb House, commencing around 08:50 BST. Ambulances and numerous police vehicles were observed at King George V playing fields, with reports of road closures in the Victoria Avenue area, near Queens Park.
The force confirmed that allegations, reported last month, detail serious sexual offences, forced marriage, and modern slavery said to have occurred in 2023. These relate to one former female member of the group, which currently comprises 150 individuals.
Chief Superintendent Gareth Wrigley stated, "Today's operation is the outcome of a detailed and robust investigation." He emphasised that the inquiry focuses on the reported criminal allegations, not the religion itself, and that all sexual assault reports are treated with gravity. Police are collaborating with local authorities to support residents and implement safeguarding measures.
Wrigley reassured the public that there is no wider community risk, with increased patrols providing local reassurance. The police have urged anyone with relevant information to come forward.
