Christopher Trybus Acquitted of Manslaughter Over Wife Tarryn Baird's 2017 Suicide
Christopher Trybus, 43, has been acquitted of all charges, including manslaughter, controlling and coercive behaviour, and two counts of rape, relating to his wife Tarryn Baird. Ms Baird died by suicide in 2017.
Trial Concludes at Winchester Crown Court
Throughout the five-week proceedings at Winchester Crown Court, Mr Trybus asserted that Ms Baird had made false allegations of abuse to health professionals, primarily for attention. He stated he was frequently abroad for his IT company, providing an alibi for several alleged incidents.
A Swindon Women's Aid employee testified that Ms Baird had reported multiple instances of violence to the domestic abuse charity. However, Mr Trybus countered these claims, suggesting his wife suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder after witnessing an armed carjacking in South Africa, contributing to her mental health issues.
Defence barrister Katy Thorne KC argued that Mr Trybus was "never abusive to his wife" and that Ms Baird's allegations to health professionals were "demonstrably false." Mr Trybus himself told the court he was unaware of his wife's accusations, describing them as "heartbreaking and devastating." He also claimed Ms Baird "bruised easily," attributing injuries to a foam roller she used for muscle massage.
