
DUP MP Jim Shannon Charged with Common Assault in October 2023 Incident
DUP Member of Parliament Jim Shannon, representing Strangford, has been charged with common assault. The alleged incident occurred on 1 October 2023.
A spokesperson for the Public Prosecution Service confirmed that following careful consideration of the evidence presented by the Police Service of Northern Ireland, a decision was made to prosecute Mr. Shannon for common assault.
Mr. Shannon is scheduled to appear at Newtownards Magistrates' Court on 28 May. The Public Prosecution Service reiterated that the decision to prosecute was made in accordance with the Test for Prosecution, which requires sufficient evidence to provide a reasonable prospect of conviction and that prosecution is in the public interest.
