Edinburgh Airport Reopens After Bomb Disposal Teams Examine Suspicious Items
Edinburgh Airport initiated an evacuation on Friday evening, approximately 18:50, after reports of suspicious items. Police confirmed that an explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) team was deployed to the scene, where the items were “made safe.” Authorities have stated the incident is not considered suspicious, with the evacuation implemented as a precautionary measure.
The airport resumed operations in the early hours of Saturday. However, officials have warned of “knock-on impacts” throughout the day. While most flights are scheduled to depart, passengers are advised to verify their flight status directly with their airlines due to potential delays.
Road closures around the airport, implemented on Friday, have contributed to continued traffic congestion. Police urged patience as enquiries remain ongoing.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) confirmed their attendance from 20:44, deploying three appliances and three specialist resources to assist during the incident.
