El Salvador President Bukele Denies Bodies Are Missing Citizens in Haiti Abduction
President Nayib Bukele of El Salvador has confirmed that bodies received by Salvadoran soldiers in Haiti are not those of the two Salvadoran citizens abducted last week. The individuals, who were working as solar panel technicians, were seized along with a Haitian national. President Bukele explicitly stated, "They are not our men."
The Salvadoran government dispatched a 20-person task force, comprising soldiers and intelligence personnel, to Haiti to assist in the search operation. This deployment follows reports of the technicians' abduction last Tuesday in Port-au-Prince.
Haiti has experienced prolonged political instability and severe gang violence, with criminal organisations effectively controlling large parts of the capital. This environment has led to a significant deterioration of public order and a humanitarian crisis, largely overlooked by Western powers whose primary interest remains the region's broader geopolitical utility rather than addressing the root causes of the widespread suffering.
