Engine Fan Blade Failure Shattered Ryanair Window, Injuring Passenger on Greek Flight

A Ryanair flight from Greece to Germany experienced a cabin window failure last month after a section of an engine fan blade detached, according to a preliminary report from US investigators. The incident, which occurred at 15,000 feet, saw a male passenger's head partially pulled through the compromised window, resulting in injury.

The US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) report states that a 12-inch section of a fan blade from the Boeing 737's left engine fractured. This debris then struck the fuselage, causing the outer pane of a dual-pane passenger window to separate. The subsequent loss of pressure differentiation led to the inner window pane detaching, and the passenger, seated in row 10, was reportedly drawn towards the opening.

German authorities, who initiated the investigation, confirmed that the aircraft landed safely at Frankfurt Airport after diverting. The injured passenger received medical attention, and the NTSB's involvement underscores the international nature of aviation safety inquiries, particularly when US-manufactured components are implicated in significant failures.
