European Heat Dome Drives UK Temperatures Above 30C This Week
A significant high-pressure system, described by meteorologists as a 'heat dome', is currently positioned over southern Europe. This weather phenomenon is driving exceptionally high temperatures across the continent and is set to influence the UK's weather significantly this week, with some areas forecast to experience temperatures above 30C.
The current forecast indicates a shift towards warmer conditions for the UK, contrasting sharply with the unseasonably cool and wet weather experienced through much of June and July. While parts of the UK will see temperatures climb, the impact is expected to be less severe than the extreme heatwaves affecting countries like Greece, Italy, and Spain, where temperatures have regularly surpassed 40C.
This European heat dome is a persistent area of high pressure that traps warm air beneath it, leading to prolonged periods of intense heat. Its northward extension is now pushing warmer air towards British shores, signalling a departure from the recent temperate conditions.
