Farage Promises to End Income Tax for UK Armed Forces Reservists
Nigel Farage, leader of Reform UK, declared his party's intention to abolish income tax for all British armed forces reservists. Speaking in Plymouth, a city with a significant naval presence, Farage stated the policy was designed to incentivise recruitment and improve retention rates within the reserve forces.
Tax Exemption and Defence Spending Commitments
The proposed tax exemption forms part of Reform UK's broader defence platform, which also includes a commitment to increase the UK's defence spending to 3% of GDP. Farage argued that such measures are essential for strengthening the nation's military capabilities, particularly in the context of perceived geopolitical instability.
Outside the rally venue, a sizeable group of protesters gathered, demonstrating against Farage's presence and policies. This public display of opposition occurred as Farage presented his party's vision for defence and the future of the armed forces.
