
Fatal Level Crossing Collision in Hoghton Leaves One Dead, Child Critically Injured
One individual has died and a child is in a critical condition following a collision between a train and a car at a level crossing in Hoghton, Lancashire. The incident occurred near Station Road, prompting a significant response from emergency services.
British Transport Police (BTP) confirmed attendance, alongside personnel from the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS). NWAS dispatched an ambulance, a rapid response vehicle, an advanced paramedic, and a helicopter emergency medical service asset to the scene. The child was subsequently transported to Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool.
The incident led to the closure of the railway line between Preston and Blackburn. Services on this route, operated by Northern, were suspended, with the company announcing the line would remain closed for the remainder of the day.
