Father and Two Sons Rescued After 16 Hours Adrift off Koh Samui
A British national and his two sons, aged eight and 10, were rescued by the Royal Thai Navy after spending 16 hours adrift in the Gulf of Thailand. The incident occurred on Saturday evening when their jet ski reportedly capsized a mile off Koh Samui.
The family, understood to be on holiday, had rented the jet ski from a local operator. They were reported missing after failing to return by Saturday evening. Rescue operations commenced, involving both local police and the navy.
During their ordeal, the family clung to the overturned jet ski. They were eventually spotted by local fishermen at approximately 08:00 local time on Sunday morning. The fishermen alerted authorities, leading to their retrieval by a navy vessel.
Upon rescue, all three individuals were transferred to Koh Samui Hospital for medical assessment. Reports indicate they were suffering from dehydration and exhaustion but were otherwise unharmed.
Thai police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the condition of the rented jet ski and the safety protocols in place.
