The crocodile involved, identified as a saltwater crocodile named Charlie, is approximately 2.5 metres (8.2 feet) long. The incident occurred as the child was reportedly leaning into the enclosure, prompting the crocodile to react. The boy's mother pulled him away, with zoo personnel then securing the reptile.
