
Former Labour Councillor Gabriel Leroy Pleads Guilty to Vote Rigging Offence
Gabriel Leroy, 24, a former Labour councillor for Southend, has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit an offence under the Criminal Law Act and the Computer Misuse Act. This admission stems from allegations that a Labour Party database was manipulated in an attempt to influence a parliamentary candidate selection process in Croydon.
Trial for Co-Defendants
Three other Labour activists, Joel Bodmer, 40, his wife Shila Bodmer, 41, and former Croydon councillor Carole Bonner, 69, entered not guilty pleas to similar charges. Their trial is scheduled to begin on 5 February 2029 and is expected to last four to five weeks. Joel Bodmer, who sought selection as Labour's candidate for Croydon East, also denied a second count of perverting the course of justice.
The parliamentary selection process was halted in November 2023 due to alleged irregularities and was subsequently re-run four months later without Joel Bodmer's participation. The indictment alleges that Mr Bodmer provided falsified telephone records, specifically omitting a call to the Labour Party support team.
