Detective Inspector Verity McCann, from Cambridgeshire Police, confirmed ongoing efforts to interview witnesses present at the zoo. "At this stage we are speaking to people who were at the zoo at the time of this distressing incident to understand more about the circumstances," McCann stated. Officers are providing support to the boy's family.
Local MP Ben Obese-Jecty expressed solidarity with the victim and his family, urging the public to avoid online speculation and confirming he was "liaising with senior officers at Gold Command who are treating this as a critical incident." Darryl Preston, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough's police and crime commissioner, also conveyed his concern following a briefing from Chief Constable Simon Megicks.
Johnsons Zoo's official website advertises a collection of "over 100 fascinating animals," including crocodiles, African lions, and a Bengal tiger. Emergency services, including the East of England Ambulance Service and Magpas Air Ambulance, attended the scene, with the child taken to hospital by road for further care after receiving critical care on site.
