German Investigators Link Russian Intelligence to Leipzig Airport Drone Incident
German prosecutors have stated that Russian intelligence services were responsible for a drone found at Leipzig/Halle Airport in August. The drone, equipped with an explosive device, was discovered near facilities housing aircraft involved in transporting military aid to Ukraine. This attribution follows an investigation into the incident, which occurred on 4th August.
The federal prosecutor's office confirmed its suspicion of foreign intelligence involvement, specifically pointing to Russian actors. The investigation is ongoing, focusing on allegations of preparing an explosive act and illegal intelligence activity. The drone in question was reportedly carrying several hundred grams of plastic explosives.
Leipzig/Halle Airport serves as a significant hub for military assistance destined for Ukraine. German authorities have previously expressed concerns about Russian espionage within the country, particularly regarding infrastructure and political targets.
