Government Expands Potty Training Programme to 20 Additional Councils
A government-backed programme designed to support children with crucial early developmental milestones, including potty training, is set to be rolled out across 20 additional local councils. This expansion follows an initial pilot phase in four areas, signalling a broader commitment to early years intervention.
The scheme targets foundational skills identified as essential for school readiness, with officials stressing the importance of basic independence upon entry into primary education. Participating councils will receive guidance and resources to implement strategies aimed at assisting parents and carers in these critical developmental stages.
This initiative forms part of a wider governmental ambition to elevate the proportion of children achieving a 'good level of development' by the end of their Reception year to 75% by 2028. The focus on practical, early support underscores a recognition of the long-term impact of pre-school development on academic and social progression.
