Green Party Proposes Two-Year Jobs Guarantee for Unemployed Under-24s
The Green Party has unveiled a commitment to offer two-year public sector jobs to all unemployed individuals under the age of 24, as stated by co-deputy leader Mothin Ali at the party's conference. This initiative seeks to directly address the pervasive issue of youth unemployment and underemployment across the UK.
Ali articulated that many young people are currently facing significant challenges, describing them as "bored, desperate and lost" within the current economic landscape. The proposed jobs guarantee is positioned as a foundational element of the party's strategy to foster economic security and opportunities for younger generations.
This policy move underscores the Green Party's focus on structural solutions to socio-economic disparities, particularly for those entering the workforce. The emphasis on public sector roles suggests a broad range of potential areas, from environmental projects to community services, where these guaranteed positions could be implemented.
