Greggs Reports Profit Increase Following Menu Changes Towards Healthier Options
Greggs, the prominent UK fast-food purveyor, has disclosed a robust increase in pre-tax profits, reaching £188.3 million for the latest financial year. This marks a significant uplift from £148.3 million reported in the preceding period. The company attributes this financial success to its strategic adaptation of offerings, moving towards healthier, 'on-the-go' options.
The menu overhaul has introduced items like matcha lattes, various high-protein meals, and a selection of pizzas and pasta. These additions are designed to align with changing consumer tastes and lifestyle trends, particularly a growing demand for wellness and convenience. Greggs' chief executive highlighted the company's commitment to evolving its menu in response to these shifts.
This reorientation has also seen Greggs expand its operational footprint, with 145 new shop openings in the past year, contributing to a total of 2,473 outlets across the UK. The company projects further expansion, anticipating between 140 and 160 new shop openings in the current year.
