Hackney Teenagers Sentenced for Knifepoint Robbery, £800 Stolen From Victim

Two Hackney teenagers have been sentenced for their roles in a knifepoint robbery that saw £800 stolen from a victim. Zain Khan, 19, of Mildmay Park, and Nahid Ali, 18, of Evering Road, Stoke Newington, were involved in the premeditated attack in February 2023.

The court heard that the victim was lured to Springfield Park in Clapton, Hackney, under the guise of meeting a girl. Upon arrival, the victim was confronted by Khan and Ali, who brandished a knife and demanded money. He was forced to transfer £800 to an account controlled by the perpetrators.

Khan received a sentence of three years and nine months in a Young Offenders Institution after pleading guilty to robbery and possession of a bladed article. Ali was sentenced to two years and four months in a Young Offenders Institution, having admitted to robbery.

The Metropolitan Police's investigation led to the identification and arrest of both individuals, underscoring the ongoing challenges of street crime and the use of digital transfers in coercive financial theft.
