Isle of Man Steam Packet Company’s Manxman Ferry Faces Extended Drydock for Unexpected Repairs

The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company has announced that its primary vessel, the Manxman ferry, will experience an extended period in drydock for 'essential' repairs. Originally scheduled to return to service earlier, the vessel's unexpected maintenance needs will now impact the company’s operational schedule until mid-May.

During routine maintenance at Cammell Laird shipyard in Birkenhead, engineers identified several issues requiring immediate attention. The specific nature of these repairs has not been detailed by the company, beyond being classified as 'essential' for the vessel's continued safe operation.

This unforeseen delay means the Manxman will not resume its routes between Douglas and Heysham as planned. The company has stated it is contacting all affected passengers and freight customers to offer alternative arrangements or refunds. The MV Arrow, a smaller freight-only vessel, is expected to cover some of the disrupted services, though passenger capacity remains a significant concern.

The Manxman, a new addition to the Steam Packet Company's fleet, began service in August 2023. Its prolonged absence represents a significant logistical challenge for the island’s primary sea link.
