Julie Dale Marks Four Years Since Daughter Ashley's Liverpool Murder
Julie Dale has spoken publicly four years after her daughter, Ashley Dale, was murdered in Liverpool. Ms Dale detailed the ongoing suffering endured by her family, stating that "every day is difficult" since Ashley's death.
Ashley Dale, a 28-year-old council worker, was shot dead in her home in Old Swan, Liverpool, on 21 August 2022. The attack, which saw a bullet penetrate her front door, was a case of mistaken identity; the intended target was Ashley's boyfriend, Lee Harrison, a known drug dealer.
Four individuals received life sentences in November 2023 for their roles in Ashley's murder. Joseph Peers, Niall Barry, and Sean Zeisz were convicted of murder, while James Witham admitted manslaughter but was also found guilty of murder.
Ms Dale expressed the profound void left by Ashley, highlighting her daughter's vibrancy and positive influence on those around her. She noted the particular struggle of Ashley's grandmother, who she described as "heartbroken". The family has been supported by Victim Support, which Ms Dale commended for their assistance through the criminal justice process.
In memory of Ashley, Ms Dale organises an annual charity event, 'Ashy's Ball', which has raised over £70,000 for local charities and community initiatives. This year's event is scheduled for 24 August at the Crowne Plaza hotel.
