Kellogg's Ends Cereal Production at Manchester Factory After 86 Years

Kellogg's has concluded all production at its Stretford factory in Greater Manchester, bringing an end to 86 years of cereal manufacturing at the site. The facility, which began operations in 1938, was once a cornerstone of the company's European production, producing up to one million boxes of cereal each day.

The closure results in the loss of 360 positions, a decision announced by the multinational food corporation in December 2023. The company stated that the move was necessary to "ensure the factory is viable and competitive for the future." However, trade unions and local political figures had criticised the decision, highlighting the factory's long-standing contribution to the local economy.

While cereal production has ceased, Kellogg's has confirmed that operations for its snack products, such as Pringles, will continue at the Manchester site. This partial retention of manufacturing capacity will see a reduced workforce remaining employed at the facility.
