Kemi Badenoch Criticises Andy Burnham Over Defence Spending Target Delays

Kemi Badenoch, the Secretary of State for Business and Trade, has criticised Labour leader Andy Burnham over his party's defence spending commitments. Ms Badenoch asserted that Mr Burnham is 'kicking defence spending into the long grass' by delaying the achievement of key NATO targets.

Mr Burnham has pledged that a Labour government would increase defence spending to 3.5% of gross domestic product (GDP) by 2035. However, Ms Badenoch highlighted that this commitment falls short of the immediate goal of reaching 3% of GDP by 2030, a target she suggested is vital for national security and international obligations.
