Lancashire Seaside Village Plagued by Millions of Flies, Residents Suffer
Residents of Knott End-on-Sea, Lancashire, are contending with a persistent infestation of millions of flies, rendering basic activities such as cooking and opening windows impossible. The pervasive insect presence has disrupted daily life, leading to widespread frustration among the local populace.
Local councillor Susan Ayres detailed the extent of the problem, describing homes covered in flies both inside and out. The situation has forced many to keep windows and doors sealed, even during warm weather, with one resident stating they had killed over 200 flies in their kitchen within an hour. This ongoing issue has severely impacted the community's quality of life.
The source of the infestation remains officially unconfirmed, though local speculation points to a nearby agricultural waste site. Lancashire County Council has initiated an investigation into the cause. This environmental concern follows prior reports of odour pollution from the same site, highlighting a pattern of unaddressed local grievances. The council's investigation aims to identify the specific origin of the flies and formulate a strategy to mitigate their presence, which has proven disruptive to the small seaside community.
