Former World Chess Champion Vladimir Kramnik Banned From Chess.com Over Cheating Allegations
Vladimir Kramnik, the esteemed former world chess champion, has been prohibited from participating in Chess.com events due to his ongoing public accusations of cheating directed at fellow grandmasters. The online platform confirmed its decision, citing Kramnik's conduct as a breach of its fair play regulations.
The Russian grandmaster had controversially suggested that several players, notably the late American grandmaster Daniel Naroditsky, were utilising external assistance during online matches. Kramnik's claims, which he published on his own website, were frequently unsupported by verifiable evidence, sparking considerable debate within the chess community.
Chess.com officials stated that while the platform encourages robust discussion and analysis, it cannot tolerate actions that undermine the integrity of its competitive environment and defame its players without substantiated proof. The ban means Kramnik can no longer compete in official Chess.com tournaments or contribute to its sponsored content.
Kramnik's outspoken criticisms have been a source of tension for months, with many professional players and analysts dismissing his methodology and conclusions as flawed. This move by Chess.com signals a firm stance against what it perceives as unfounded allegations that could harm the reputations of its users and the sport itself.
