Prince Harry Reconsiders UK Visit with Family After Police Protection Request Denied
Prince Harry is reportedly reconsidering his family's imminent travel to the UK, after his request for state-funded police protection was denied by the Home Office. The Duke of Sussex had offered to personally cover the security costs for his family during their visits.
This decision means the family would not receive the customary protection provided by the Metropolitan Police, which is afforded to senior members of the Royal Family and other prominent public figures. It is understood that Harry believes the current security arrangements for his family in the UK are insufficient, particularly given previous security incidents.
A legal representative for the Duke stated that the family does not feel safe bringing their children, Archie and Lilibet, to the UK under the current circumstances. The representative emphasised that the issue is not about the family's willingness to pay for security, but rather the requirement for police protection due to the specific threats they face.
The Duke initiated a judicial review of the Home Office's decision in September 2021, seeking to overturn the ruling that prevents him from privately funding police protection. This legal challenge underscores the ongoing contention regarding security protocols for members of the Royal Family who have stepped back from official duties.
